Yamaha launch the DXR/DXS & CXR/CXS Mk3

Powered and unpowered live PA ranges upgraded

Yamaha have just refreshed four of their hugely popular PA speaker ranges, delivering significant improvements to their acoustic performance, functionality and power. The DXR Mk3 and DXS Mk3 deliver a selection of powered top cabinets and subwoofers that benefit from upgraded DSP and amplifer units, while their unpowered counterparts, the CXR Mk3 and CXS Mk3 offer a solution for permanent installations and events where power sources are limited.

DRX / DRS Mk3 The DXR Mk3 range comprises three models: the DXR15, DXR12 and DXR10, which are equipped with Respectively featuring high durability 15-, 12- and 10-inch low frequency drivers respectively, and each employ a 1.75-inch tweeter. All three models are housed in a lightweight injection-moulded enclosure, which as well as weight reduction, offers attenuation of cabinet resonances and reduces standing-wave effects thanks to optimised port design and placement.

The two-way, bi-amped design features a new, high efficiency 2000W Class D amplifier and switched power supply that promise smooth, stable operation, while delivering SPL's of up to 134dB. Onboard 96kHz DSP powers Yamaha's proprietary Advanced FIR-X Tuning technology - which promises exceptionally smooth phase characteristics and clear, distortion-free sound - alongside a range of DSP modes that include FoH/Main and Monitor settings, as well as optimised factory presets, up to eight user presets designed for a range of different applications, and a feedback-suppression system. An internal accelerometer detects the speaker's orientation, with a switchable automatic mode allowing the appropriate mode to be selected based on the cabinet's positioning.

A rear-mounted, high visibility LCD panel and encoder offer straightforward mode selection and precise control of the likes of EQ adjustments, delay and routing settings, and recall of presets.

The DRS Mk3 subwoofers then share the same DSP system, and come housed in a plywood cabinet finished in a durable, scratch-resistant Polyurea coating. There are three models: the DXS18, DXS15 and DXS12, which are equipped with 18-, 15- and 12-inch drivers respectively, with the largest capable of reproducing frequencies down to 32Hz.

Up to 10 DXR/DXS Mk3 units can be controlled wirelessly using Yamaha's D-Remote iOS/Android app.

CRX/CRS Mk3 The CXR Mk3 and CXS Mk3 series then offer unpowered versions of the DXR/DXS range, primarily intended for installation, fixed system and corporate event applications, or for events where power sources are few and far between. Each of the models in the DRX/DRS series speakers have a counterpart in the CRX/CRS line-up, and benefit from speaker processing and tuning when used alongside Yamaha's PX and PC-D Series amplifiers or other compatible signal processors.
