Bulls, Salamanders Donate Gloves to Duke, UNC Hospitals, Durham PD

Members of the Durham Bulls and Holly Springs Salamanders front office staff are teaming up to help the Triangle community during the COVID-19 crisis. Several staffers help donate the ballparks resources to Duke Hospitals, UNC REX Healthcare and the Durham Police Department, as well as the Durham Rescue Mission.

Capcom talked to Bull City Hospitality Director of Food & Beverage Dave Levey about the efforts at the DBAP.

With the start of last week, we have been working hard at the ballpark, he explained. Our first priority when we arrived on last Monday was to get any of the perishable food items to the Durham Rescue Mission. We donated just over $800 worth of product. These were items that we had brought in for the Duke UNC Baseball games that were canceled the previous Friday.

The crew then had to think about the Bulls game soon to come.

From there we started putting together action plans of how we would prepare for a later than expected start to the Bulls Season, said Levey.

As plans and contingency plans began to come together and announcements were made, Levy shifted gears again.

Over the weekend I received the alert from the WRAL app that hospitals were looking for supplies, he explained. It was up in the air if I was going to work from home on Monday or go in. That alert made the decision, I knew we had boxes of gloves throughout the ballpark for the start of the season and they needed to go to people who needed them.

He continued, Shortly thereafter two Bull City Hospitality managers Matt Messner and Jason Barker asked if they could come in. I said, Yes, and we need to get all of the gloves together to donate to the hospitals.

Messner and Barker gathered 24 cases of gloves in Durham while Levy drove down to Ting Park in Holly Springs to pick up 5 cases of gloves that the Salamanders had on hand.

DBBC Retail Manager Bryan Wilson helped load the gloves for transport once all of the cases were together. Levey and his crew delivered gloves to Duke Hospitals while Messner took the remaining supplies to UNC Rex. DBBC Asst General Manager Operations Scott Strickland got into the action and took some gloves over to the Durham Police Department.
