Luc Lafortune Speaks in Ruia on "Art and Ptry in Stage Lighting"

(24/11/2013) The famous Canadian lighting designer, Luc Lafortune, who designed - among other things - the lighting at the Cirque du Soleil, at the Turkmenistan's Independence Celebration Day, at the House of the Dancing Water dancing show, at the Peter Gabriel Growing up tour, will be in St. Petersburg on 5 December this year for a unique conference, called Art and Poetry in Stage Lighting.

This exclusive event will be held at the Alexandrinsky Theatre by the theatres managerial staff itself, with the cooperation of TDM Stage Equipment and the Italian company Clay Paky, the world leader in the production of professional stage lighting equipment. The event media partners are the Evening Petersburg newspaper, the main Russian media and state television.

Luc Lafortune is unanimously considered one of the most creative lighting designers of the last thirty years. His approach to lighting design features elements that are so artistic that it is defined as poetry. It is inspired by a careful philological analysis of the show, which is then combined with a painstaking search for colours and atmospheres.

Luc Lafortune has worked with Cirque du Soleil since far-off 1984, when the Cirque took its first steps. Since then, he has made a vital contribution to creating its myth by working on several productions that have gained international fame. However his work extends to many projects, even in the world of touring, theatre, and big events, where his accomplishments always stand out for their creativity and originality.

During his lecture on Art and Poetry in Stage Lighting, Lafortune will guide us through his most important projects. He will inevitably start precisely from his experiences with the Cirque du Soleil, where he has had countless opportunities to practice his art and experiment continuously with new technical solutions. His career will fascinate the audience, as well as be a valuable and unique professional development opportunity for all trade professionals.
