Ningbo takes the lead in Zhejiang Province in online sales

Statistics from Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce show that in the first three quarters of this year, Ningbo achieved a total online retail sales volume of 34.143 billion yuan, up by 89.16% over the same period of last year, ranking No.1 in terms of growth rate among all the cities in Zhejiang Province. The retail sales volume of the large-scale social consumer goods for the traditional offline commerce stood at 107.79 billion yuan, up by 12.3%.

With the development of e-commerce in the city, the local and third-party e-commerce platforms are flourishing and products made in Ningbo have been exported to the outside world through the online platforms. For the first three quarters, the growth of the online retail sales volume of Ningbo is 35 percentage points higher than that of the whole province, accounting for 8.99% of the volume of the whole province instead of the 7.32% of last year. With the emerging consumption model of e-commerce, Ningbo citizens are now enthusiastic about online shopping. In the first three quarters, the online consumption volume of Ningbo citizens reached 35.756 billion yuan, up by 47.88% over the same period of last year.

Despite the impact of the emerging consumption model, such traditional industries as retail, accommodation, catering and wholesale are seeking development through structural adjustment and industrial transformation. In the first three quarters, the large-scale accommodation businesses realized a total turnover of 3.04 billion yuan, and the growth of large-scale catering businesses has ranked No.1 in the whole province for the past four consecutive months. With regard to the retail industry, the retail sales volumes of large shopping malls, convenient chain stores and specialized stores have maintained steady growth, while the retail sales volume of living necessities by department stores and supermarkets reached 22.77 billion yuan, an accumulative increase of 11.7%. Specifically speaking, the sales volume of garment, shoes and caps, and textiles grows by 16.6%, that of the home decoration up by 43.4%, and that of the household appliances and audio-video equipment up by 29.2%.
