NetApp IBC2014 Overview

Clustered Data ONTAP(R)

This scale-out NAS platform supports both Ethernet and Fibre Channel protocols; SATA, SAS, and Flash drives; and can be sized from a few terabytes to five petabytes. It is ideal for rendering, transcoding, small broadcast production, proxy serving, metadata, and media management and has high performance in random I/O-intensive shared media workloads. Clustered Data ONTAP(R) offers proven efficiency with nondisruptive operations and scalability and provides enterprise data management functionality that will reduce OPEX and integrate with IT operations better than traditional media-specific proprietary storage alternatives. The system is rated at five nines reliability, which makes it 100 times more reliable than almost all other storage products sold into media workloads today.

E-Series Storage Family

E-Series is a seventh-generation storage array family with chassis for 12, 24, and 60 disks and offering five nines reliability. Besides providing RAID 6 with no performance drop through the controller, E-Series also offers a new resiliency scheme called dynamic disk pools (DDP). With this scheme, rebuild times are an order of magnitude shorter than standard RAID with minimal performance degradation during a rebuild. E-Series also eliminates the need to replace bad drives immediately to regain full resiliency. E-Series provides massive bandwidth with balanced large block and random I/O -- making it ideal for editing broadcast news (compressed HD) and primetime programming or theatrical releases (uncompressed HD and 4K). The E2700s and E5400s are competitively priced against less-reliable block storage and are battle-tested under StorNext, GPFS, CXFS, and dozens of media applications.
