SAVuka TV is a new Android VOD app aimed at the black South African market, which exclusively offers local content to its users. The app went live on 9 December and offers a number of pricing options including: R9.99 for one day, R19.99 for five days and R35.00 for a monthly subscription. Pay-per-view options are also available and range from R5.50 for Premium , R3.50 for Fresh and R1.50 for Lite content.
SAVuka TV is ground-breaking in that it not only gives people entertainment anywhere, anytime; it also gives multimedia creatives the freedom to be creative. The Sidla Sonke production funding model ensures mass ownership of content, with rights holders keeping them in perpetuity, says Siphamandla Kunene, creative producer at SAVuka TV.
Created by Pencil Productions, the platform features a range of shows which are approximately eight minutes long, including lifestyle programmes, dramas, reality shows, and documentaries. SAVuka TV launched with six reality shows: Soap Stars, which follows some of South Africa s soap actors; Salon Nightmares which features hair stylist Xoli Ntshingila and her salon in Soweto; Out Living It, which follows three gay artists; Diski Hits and Mrs, which features local soccer wives; and Behind the Pulpit, which follows female pastors.
