Music Expo announces final seminar line-up for November event

Hot on the heels of their successful early Autumn gathering in Nashville on September 21st, Music Expo, the networking and technology conference for music creatives presented in association with Sound On Sound, has finalised the arrangements and line-up for their last event of the year.

Music Expo Nashville was a great success, with over 350 attendees and more than 30 speakers in the seminar and discussion programme, including award-winning producers and engineers F. Reid Shippen and Jacquire King (pictured above), Bob Bullock, Gena Johnson and Tim Lauer, as well as key Nashville music business executives from companies including Pandora, RCA and Oh Boy Records, and tech companies such as Steinberg, Leapwing Audio, Focal, iZotope, Eventide and Yamaha.

Novembers forthcoming two-day Bay Area Expo takes place at the SAE Expression College in Emeryville, across the bay from San Francisco, on the weekend of November 9-10. The event will open with an address from local mayor Ally Medina, while songwriter, film/TV composer and producer Clarence Jey (above) has been confirmed as the keynote speaker and one of the tech seminar presenters. Other producers and artists attending include: DECAP (DaBaby, Joyner Lucas), McKay Garner (J Dilla, Red Hot Chili Peppers), Karrie Keyes (SoundGirls, Pearl Jam), Jay-J (Ultra, Defected), Pete Lyman (Fall Out Boy, Weezer) and Lalin St. Juste from The Seshen, while the music business will be represented by masterminds including Mary Hall (CEO of Marketing at EJR Radio) and Marcus Juarez (Head of Latin Music Programming at Pandora).

In addition to the seminars announced for the two-day Expo in late September (detailed here), the following additional workshops and discussion panels have now been confirmed:

Songwriting in Cubase 10

Keynote speaker, record producer and multi-instrumentalist Clarence Jey shares his Cubase arrangement and production workflow, with hints on how to maximise songwriting efficiency.

Envelop: Immersive audio, spatial audio software, and the social impact of listening

Experimental artist and spatial audio explorer Christopher Willits will demonstrate his immersive production techniques, and explain the social aims of his spatial listening project.

Creative Masterclass with Liam Shy

Producer, sound designer and DJ Liam Shy reveals his workflow for writing the best music he possibly can. Join him for this session and learn a new way to understand composition.

Electronic and acoustic drum production (Live Session)

Grammy-winning producer Nahuel Bronzini and producer/session drummer McKay Garner will demonstrate how to augment an existing production with new acoustic rhythms - live!

Making your tracks sound like the records you love

Producer/Artist Jay-J will discuss workflows, technologies and concepts that will help you create finished pieces of music worthy of your worst critic - yourself.

Women in Music: Gender, Diversity & Inclusion

This conversation will discuss how some of the top women in music have made an impact, how to climb the ladder, and how to find allies.

Vocal Production and Mixing Workshop

Songwriter, producer, engineer and Abbey Road Institute lecturer Emiliano Caballero shares creative hints on how to record and use vocals creatively into your own productions.

Track Mastering (Live Session)

Mastering Engineer Michael Romanowski (Third Eye Blind, Pentatonix, G-Love) will master a track before the audience, adding the final touches to a competition-winning remix.

Last but not least, there will be an entire series of seminars, talks and workshops presented by Infrasonic Mastering on the subject of analogue recording, Legends of Analogue. The full programme is as follows:

Peter Swan, owner and lead designer of Useful Arts, will discuss why design is important.

Analogue Connections

Learn how to build a hybrid or an all-analogue studio using soldering, connections, patchbays and more, with Cherron Arens.

DIY Audio Kits

Chris Hughes, audio engineer and gear builder extraordinaire, walks us through a Capi kit build.

Analogue Formats: Tape, Wire, Vinyl, and more

Jessica Thompson presents the challenges and the importance of archiving analogue recorded media, as much of it disappears before our eyes.

Analogue Mastering

Pete Lyman, Piper Payne, Dave Gardner, and Warren Huart discuss the challenges and advantages of mastering for vinyl, and how Pete designed an analogue preview chain for his lathe.

Recording and Mixing In Analogue

All you need to know, from a house engineer at Tiny Telephone Recording. With James Riotto and Frank Dorrite.

Attendees at Music Expo SF will also be able to enter a track production competition, with prizes sponsored by EDM listening and critique session organisers Headroom SF worth a total of over $5000. To enter, all you have to do is submit an original track or remix into the competition at www.headroomsf.com by November 5th. Prizes will be awarded before the end of Music Expo on November 10th.
