Giving Tuesday usually follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It is a day in the fall where people are called on to find a cause they are inspired by and make a donation. We are in an unprecedented situation globally, and we have all been called to action right now to make a difference where we can in the nonprofit community. We are taking this opportunity to highlight some of our GoPro for a Cause partners.
Were kicking off Giving Tuesday with an organization that has been instrumental in GoPros COVID relief aid efforts, which you can read about here. Well follow with our other amazing partners in alphabetical order. We cherish all of our partners and we are humbled to raise awareness for the good work they're doing in this world. If you feel inspired to give today, these organizations would be a great start.
GLOBAL IMPACT
Global Impact inspires greater giving and supports your connection to more than 100 highly trusted international charities. Through the Coronavirus Outbreak Fund, Global Impact is supporting organizations on the ground mitigating and treating the disease among vulnerable communities; delivering medical supplies such as face masks, hand sanitizer and gloves to health care workers; providing infectious disease training; assisting businesses with containment and continuity strategies; and more. For more than 60 years, we have strengthened international charities, helping to generate nearly $2 billion to address humanitarian needs. Be inspired. Change the world. Give global.
GoPro has worked with Global Impact to support employee fundraising efforts of GoPro for a Cause, including supporting organizations like Skate Like a Girl, whose mission is to create an inclusive community for young people that promotes confidence, leadership and social justice through the sport of skateboarding. As the COVID-19 pandemic evolved, Global Impact and GoPro partnered to identify organizations that could benefit from and drive more impact with the use of GoPros-and they are making in-kind donations to several global organizations. GoPro also recognized the need to provide funding toward the overall COVID-19 response effort and has helped to raise awareness for the Coronavirus Outbreak Fund.
Global Impact sits at the nexus between nonprofits, corporations and the philanthropic sectors. We are working closely with our partners and remain especially concerned with the global implications of this worldwide pandemic. Our experience uniquely positions us to empower corporations and nonprofits during this challenging time, addressing immediate needs and developing sustainable solutions. As we move forward, all of us must look at life through a COVID-19 lens.
To be relevant, to survive and even to thrive, the first step is to consider and not ignore our current surroundings. Instead, we must step intentionally into this space, knowing that from here on out, this pandemic will be a part of our narrative as individuals-spouses, parents, consumers, children, neighbors and, as institutions, nonprofits, for-profits, foundations. In this moment, there is an opportunity to achieve greater giving and capture the altruism that results from a time of disaster. There is hope-and together we need to find it, address the reality and embrace the opportunities presented.
#GivingTuesdayNow presents an opportunity for organizations, charities and individuals to unite for a global day of gratitude and giving. Giving can take so many forms especially at this time. From hiking challenges to peer-to-peer fundraisers, our partners are offering options for everyone to join the movement. AIM HIGH
Aim High was founded 35 summers ago. It creates life-changing opportunities during the summer and beyond. Our community:
Nurtures the promise and potential of middle school students from low-income neighborhoods
Prepares students for high school, setting them on the path to college and future success
Inspires the next generation of teachers and educational leaders
As a result, our graduates start high school with a sense of belonging and the growth mindset needed to thrive in the classroom, setting them up for success in high school and beyond.
COVID-19 and the resulting school closures is disproportionately and severely impacting Aim High students and families. Families from low-income communities across the country are worried about external factors and basic needs like employment, hunger and shelter. There are a range of factors at play for students trying to learn as they shelter in place-access to digital tools, increased responsibilities at home, the loss of routine, lack of quiet spaces to study and concern over the health and well-being of loved ones. These stressors are compounding families' already vulnerable situations, and robbing students of the sense of safety, belonging and well-being they need to learn and to thrive.
This year's distance learning program is designed to build community and connection (even while physically apart). Our emphasis on social-emotional wellness and project-based learning will address the achievement and opportunity gaps that are widening exponentially every day of this crisis, while providing students with the structure and friendships they desperately need.
Each week of the summer, students will participate in STEM projects, virtual book clubs and our signature Issues & Choices class. Students will be challenged each day to get active, try new things and learn something in a non-academic setting. Activities may include dance challenges, online yoga, art classes and walking meditation, among many others. Aim High at Home runs June 22 to July 24, 2020.
