Thanks, Eskom: High risk of load shedding forecast for Wednesday 6 March

It seems like Eskom are trying to prepare us for another bout of load shedding after they issued their second warning in two days about the risk of rolling blackouts. No cuts have actually been confirmed, but the utility are telling us all to be on standby.

On Tuesday, a series of breakdowns at Eskom's plants hiked up the load shedding forecast to moderate . After riding one particular wave, it seems we won't be so lucky just 24 hours later.

Why load shedding is a high risk on Wednesday The power giants aren't giving too much away with regards to why we're on the precipice of darkness once more. All they've revealed is that the system is tight and vulnerable . Their timing is absolutely impeccable, by the way.

On Thursday, NERSA will reveal their final decision on whether Eskom can implement a tariff hike of 15%. The hotly-anticipated ruling will shape the future of the company, who will once again be bailed out by the taxpayer. An emergency load shedding schedule may just twist a few arms ahead of the big announcement.

Eskom have some explaining to do Meanwhile, the company took to Twitter to explain themselves on Wednesday morning:

Eskom did not implement rotational load shedding yesterday but the risk remains high for today as the system is still tight and vulnerable. Load shedding will only be implemented if absolutely necessary. We continue to encourage residents and businesses to use electricity sparing during this time.
