CVP, one of Europe s leading resellers and providers of professional video and broadcast solutions, is partnering with renowned director and cinematographer Joe Ransom to launch a new annual film competition with a difference. Instead of an award for a final piece of work, the main prize of the new Large Format Short Films competition will be the budget and tailored support for the winner to bring their story to life, as well as a screening of their finished film to industry professionals.
The competition has no strict rules except that entrants must submit a script no longer than 12 minutes, be aged between 18 and 35, and UK-based. We wanted to launch a competition that allowed freedom with your script without setting boundaries or parameters to abide by Ransom states.
The winner's prize will be tailored to their specific project needs whether that's a high-end cinema camera and lighting package, full production support, or an introduction to the right director or cinematographer. In addition, they will receive a £500 CVP voucher and a screening of their finished film. There are also second and third prizes of £250 and £150 CVP vouchers respectively.
Everyone has a short film in them and we often find ourselves talking about all those obstructions that make it impossible to get our projects off the ground. We want to take those obstacles away by supplying our winning entrants with everything they need to get their film made and tailoring our support to those needs , says Ransom.
Upon submitting their scripts, 10 projects will be shortlisted, and the writers will be invited to attend a networking breakfast. The team at Large Format Films will shoot a scene from their film using Cooke lenses, as well as additional kit from renowned brands and other competition sponsors: Aputure, Teradek and SmallHD.
Submissions will be reviewed by a stellar panel of judges - to be announced - before the grand prize winner is chosen from a final three at a celebratory evening at the end of July 2025. Full films will be made between August and September 2025.
Entries are open from now until 1 May at http://www.largeformatfilms.co.uk/shorts, giving aspiring filmmakers plenty of time to hone their scripts. And with wider industry buy-in, including sponsorship from Cooke, Aputure, Sony, Teradek, SmallHD and Crucial those that progress through the initial stages can be sure of taking crucial steps into furthering their filmmaking careers.
We are enormously excited about the Large Format Short Films Competition. The dream is always to get your content made, and whether you're a first time writer, seasoned director or aspiring cinematographer, we want to give you the opportunity to work with Large Format Films to bring your idea to life, says Joel McArdle, CVP Account Manager This is a golden opportunity for young filmmakers to get their work noticed by high-profile industry professionals, network with their peers, and get the targeted resources they need to get their film made and up on the big screen. The whole team is really looking forward to seeing those initial scripts come in and seeing the creativity of a new generation of filmmakers in action.
Our ethos has always been to give back and support young filmmakers and their journey into the industry. We hope that this competition will not only spark the career of the eventual winner but also provide a network for the top ten shortlisted and a deadline for every applicant to put pen to paper and get their script submitted Ransom concludes.
