Hong Kong: Thales opens Innovation Hub and forms partnership with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)

Thales develops Innovation Hubs around the world. These Hubs serve as structures for collaborative innovation and combine new design methods, simulation tools and visualisations in order to co-create a truly differentiated offer with customer-users', ultimately designing better products.

On the occasion of a visit to Hong Kong by Jean-Bernard L vy, Chairman and CEO, and Pascale Sourisse, Senior Executive Vice President for International Development, Thales announces the opening of an Innovation Hub in Hong Kong and the signing of a partnership with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Both these initiatives support Thales's activities in the security and transport domains so as to serve the development of smart cities in Asia.

An Innovation Hub for the creation of new ideas A true incubator of ideas for academic, government and industry representatives, the Innovation Hub will focus on the concept of Smart Cities, working specifically in the transport and security domains.

In transportation, the Hub will support projects in the areas of urban transport data analysis, decision support and the optimisation of operations.

With regards to security, the Innovation Hub will principally focus on intelligent surveillance systems. The teams will work on fusing real-time and historical video data with information from monitoring systems, with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of security operations.

This new centre will work in synergy with the Innovation Hub in Singapore, on a more regional level.

Partnership with HKUST The innovation Hub will also be a way for Thales to cooperate closely with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Signed in presence of Jean-Luc Lambla, VP International Chief Technical Officer of Thales and Dr. Eden Woon, VP for Institutional Advancement of HKUST, this agreement will encourage innovation in the development of future products, through the collaboration of students and engineers from Thales. As for HKUST, its researchers will take part in the collaborative works hosted in Thales's new Innovation Hub in Hong Kong.
