KCETs Award-Winning Weekly Series SOCAL CONNECTED Delves Into the World of Comic Cons and Efforts to Keep Women in Costume Safe from Harassment

Burbank, CA - October 16, 2014 - SOCAL CONNECTED, KCETs Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series goes inside the fascinating world of comic book conventions. The growing popularity of comic cons has also triggered cases of harassment of women dressed in comic book character costumes. Reporter Cara Santa Maria explores the culture and recent steps to prevent harassment, as well as the surprising changes in comic book characters themselves as more women artists and writers make their mark on the traditionally male-dominated world of superheroes. Inside the World of Muslim American Fashion: Some young Muslim women face a difficult choice. How can they express themselves and remain observant of their religion?
