Sharjah Government Communication Award Witnees Remarkable Turnout

The website of the Sharjah Government Communication Award (GCA) has been witnessing remarkable turnout by media professionals in the UAE's government communication sector aspiring to participate in the various categories that the award comprises.

The website www.communicationaward.ae will allow requests for participation until September 15 , 2013, after which the participants who are eligible according to the terms and conditions of the award will be referred by the screening committee to the judging panel.

According to Ibrahim Al Abed, Director General of the National Media Council and Head of the Judging Panel, the award aims to encourage innovation and enhance government communication as a substantial element that will contribute to the development of a distinguished media industry in the UAE, GCC and Middle East.

Al Abed indicated that the work of the judging panel will begin immediately after receiving the participants submitted works from the screening committee, stressing that the judging mechanism adopts standards that comply with the terms and conditions of the award. This will ensure the honoring of the various efforts that contribute to the development of the media locally and regionally.

For his part, Osama Samra, Director of Sharjah Media Centre emphasized that the judging mechanism ensures impartiality, noting that the names of all participants remain anonymous until the committee embarks upon evaluating the participations according to the standards it has set for each work separately.

The general criteria for assessing the participations include terms related to the selection of the subject, the effort exerted, the medium used, aesthetics and effects, research and information, the thrill element, technical excellence, intellectual creativity, structure and coherence as well as quality and suitability of language.

Samra said the award, which was launched by Sharjah Media Centre in implementation of the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has attracted the attention of professionals in government communication as well as media entities of the private-sector within the UAE and GCC. GCA seeks to represent an initiative aimed at developing the mechanisms of government communication in the region.

The GCA's judging panel has stipulated that the participations must have published or broadcast their work in the period between September 1, 2012 and September 15, 2013 without previous participation at another award.

According to the provisions of the award, government communication and media professionals who work on a full or part- time basis, are self-employed or students in communication and information colleges can participate in the award. Those who wish to apply for more than one category are required to submit separately for each category. Participation in the award does not entail any fees.
