Ziggo starts test with landline calls via smartphone or tablet

Ziggo today started to test out fixed telephony using your smartphone or tablet. Using Ziggo Bapp, an iOS/Android App, it is as though you have your fixed telephone number with you everywhere you go, even when you are abroad. Ziggo has sent emails inviting potential testers to participate. Ziggo Bapp will be available in the App Store and Play Store during the course of the day.

Bapp is a call app installed on a smartphone or tablet that uses a mobile / wireless internet connection for calling via your landline.

The aim of the test is to examine the ease of use and the practicality of the app. The testers will also be asked if they have ideas for potential improvement to the app. A maximum of 3,000 Ziggo customers can participate in the test, which is to last for two months. A select group of Ziggo customers will be sent a personal email inviting them to take part. Based on the results of the test, a decision will be made as to whether the Ziggo Bapp, in its current or adapted form, is to be made available to all customers with a fixed Ziggo telephone line.

The use of Bapp is much safer than the use of many comparing products. Bapp encrypts the signalling and the media and only allows connections with the Ziggo telephony gateway.
