AP serves up bounty of cooking columns for the home chef

AP serves up bounty of cooking columns for the home chef Katie Workman, a popular food blogger and cookbook author, is joining The Associated Press' lineup of weekly cooking columnists.

Workman, who specializes in family-friendly meals, will take over the weekly Cooking on Deadline column that's currently written by AP Food Editor J.M. Hirsch. Starting the week of Aug. 3, her column will offer creative ideas for fast, easy and flavorful weeknight cooking.

Hirsch, who wrote Cooking on Deadline for nearly a decade, is handing over the column to focus on other duties, including a new column called Food Finds, an occasional series spotlighting emerging food trends, products, newsy items and fun recipes.

These two additions will complement AP's robust lineup of other food columns, including:

The Healthy Plate, written by Food Network star Melissa d'Arabian, which offers weekly recipes that explore the healthier side of everyday ingredients.

KitchenWise, by Sara Moulton, a weekly column that uses delicious recipes to teach basic cooking skills.

The American Table, by Elizabeth Karmel, which celebrates the delicious diversity of Southern cooking and barbecue.

And Worlds Fare, by Food Network star Aarti Sequeira, which provides weeknight-friendly takes on global cuisines.

I am thrilled to offer such a diverse array of voices in our lineup of food columns, and Katie is a great addition to the team, Hirsch said. She understands the struggle of balancing work and family, and that comes through in her tips, tricks and recipes for getting dinner on the table fast.

Workman has written two cookbooks focused on easy, family-friendly cooking, Dinner Solved! and The Mom 100 Cookbook.

DArabian is an expert on healthy eating on a budget and serves as a judge on the Food Network competition series Guys Grocery Games. Shes well-known for her Ten Dollar Dinners TV show and best-selling cookbook. Her most recent cookbook is Supermarket Healthy.

Moulton was executive chef at Gourmet magazine for nearly 25 years, and spent a decade hosting several Food Network shows. She currently stars in public televisions Saras Weeknight Meals and has written several cookbooks, including Sara Moultons Everyday Family Dinners.

Karmel is a barbecue and Southern foods expert. She is the chef and pitmaster at online retailer CarolinaCueToGo.com and author of three cookbooks, including Taming the Flame.

Sequeria shows readers how easy it can be to liven up everyday cooking by using widely available ingredients from the grocer's international aisle. She is the author of Aarti Paarti: An American Kitchen with an Indian Soul.

Besides serving as AP's food editor, Hirsch is the author of three cookbooks, including Beating the Lunch Box Blues.
