Innovative production techniques to deliver footage in real time
ITN Productions, the in-house TV production business from ITN, will produce Football League matches from next season in a new three-year deal announced today.
As part of the multi-million pound contract, ITN Productions will film and edit Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League 1, Sky Bet League 2, Capital One Cup and Johnstones Paint Trophy matches amounting to 1,813 games per year held at Football League and Premier League grounds.
Starting in August, the deal agreed between ITN Productions and the Football League covers the 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons.
Filming requirements will range from one-camera pitch-side filming to full multi-camera outside broadcast (OB) production, estimated at between 40-60 games per season.
Alongside coverage of Football League matches ITN Productions has also been contracted to produce all digital content for the Football League for broadcasters, international partners, clubs and associations worldwide from an editorial team based at ITN's offices in London. The digital clips and highlights content for all of the Football League competitions as well as some Premier League matches will be for use by domestic broadcasters (Sky Sports & Channel 5), international broadcasters (through Pitch International) and clubs (through their online Player service).
The deal sees the centralising of Football League production under one contract with one production partner. ITN Productions will innovate with new technology and production techniques and real time delivery using dark fibre networks in partnership with ADI.

Grant Philips, current FIFA World Cup and UEFA Champions League match director, will oversee the live OB element of the project with Simon Potter, former senior director of programming at ESPN, as executive producer.
