Namibia to launch independent movie distribution and film agency company --

Independence Avenue Films will launch on Tuesday 15 April in Namibia, focusing on the distribution of film products in the country.

Due to a lack of a movie distribution and film agency company, Independence Avenue Films aims to address the challenges faced in the Namibian film industry in terms of distribution, agency and marketing. The company also wants to focus on film-related events to establish a cinema culture in Namibia.

At the launch, The President by Jean-Pierre Bekolo (Cameroon / Germany) will have its Namibian premiere and Najat Jellab s short film, The Projectionist (Morocco) will also screen.

The President takes an intense, fictionalised look at current African politics and takes shape around activism, without losing its humourous touch.

In The Projectionist, Majid lives only for his job and his passion for films. His world is shattered when he finds out that the owner of the theatre where he works, has decided to sell it.

Jellab s film won Best Short Film Award at the Harlem International Film Festival and received a Special Mention at the 3rd Luxor African Film Festival in March.

Interested members of the Namibian film and arts industry and the wider public are invited to the launch of Independence Avenue Films on 15 April at 19h00 at the Warehouse Theatre. Entrance is free.
