USSI Global Opens Media Transport Solutions Lab Ahead of C-Band Transition

USSI Global has opened its Media Transport Solutions Lab on its Melbourne campus. The engineering center provides a platform-agnostic environment for testing alternatives to C-Band media transport and distribution ahead of a potential second phase of the FCC's C-Band transition.

The first C-Band clearing, completed in 2023, cleared the lower 300MHz of the C-band's 500MHz spectrum for mobile and emergency services and relocated existing tenants to the upper 200MHz. A proposed second clearing would clear at minimum 100MHz of the remaining spectrum, affecting remaining tenants.

The lab allows customers to test workflows across satellite, IP, and cloud platforms, including hybrid connectivity options. Potential outcomes include a repack of satellite bands such as C-Band and Ku, or IP-based distribution via fiber, cable, microwave, LEO constellation, and 4G/5G mobile, or a hybrid combination. Customers select connectivity strategies, redundancy models, and real-world scenarios to evaluate, and can configure the lab with their own technology and third-party hardware, either remotely or on-premises.

Our Media Transport Solutions Lab offers a secure and professional infrastructure to test theories and design approaches that identify resilient workflows without the time and expense of doing it in-house, says Anthony Morelli, President and CEO, USSI Global. Our customers can configure and re-configure the lab environment with their own technology and third-party hardware, and execute their testing procedures both remotely and on-prem. Nothing else of this nature exists in our industry, and its arrival could not be timelier.
