AVERAGE AUDIENCE UP OVER 200,000 ON LAST YEAR'S FINAL
Clare's thrilling extra-time win over Cork in Sunday's All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final in Croke Park was watched by over a million viewers in Ireland. An average of 1,037,000 were tuned into The Sunday Game Live on RT 2 with another 9,000 watching on RT 2+1.
The RT 2 audience represented a share of 77% of those watching TV at the time. Television coverage peaked at 1,231,000 as the game reached its climax.
Last year's decider between Limerick and Kilkenny averaged 830,000 on RT 2 which in itself was the highest audience for an All-Ireland Hurling Final since 2019. Sunday night's highlights and review of the Hurling year on the Sunday Game drew an average audience of 255,000 with a share of 28%.
On RT .ie/Sport there were over one million page views (1.07m) of the live All-Ireland Hurling Final blog, versus 416,000 for the live blog of Limerick v Kilkenny last year.
Commenting on the figures, RT Group Head of Sport, Declan McBennett, said It is fitting given the epic nature of yesterday's clash that it attracted such a huge audience to witness the skill and commitment on display from both sides. The game will live long in the memory of those who witnessed or listened to it, with Tony Kelly's goal taking its place in the annals of memorable Croke Park moments
This coming weekend sees bumper RT GAA coverage continuing with the All-Ireland Football Final meeting of Galway and Armagh. Joanne Cantwell will have all the live action on the Sunday Game Live from 2.15pm on RT 2 and RT Player with Jacqui Hurley presenting the Sunday Game that evening from 9.30pm, also on RT 2 and RT Player.
On Saturday night Jacqui will be joined by Des Cahill for Up For The Match as they set the scene for Sunday's big game. Saturday Sport and Sunday Sport on RT Radio 1 will have live commentaries, reports and reaction from Croke Park while RT .ie/sport will keep fans up-to-date with all the action.
