(23/08/2013) As part of the relocation of its transmission business from London to MediaCityUK in Salford and Milton Keynes, SIS LIVE relied on rack equipment, cables and complementary connectors from specialist distributor Argosy. The choice of cables and connectors from a single vendor ensured not just fast fixing but also the best possible signal integrity.
One of the core businesses of SIS, the parent company which wholly-owns SIS LIVE, is to deliver dedicated television services to chains of betting shops and online gaming organisations. It is the hubs for these channels which have been relocated from London's Corsham Street facility. The new machine rooms in Salford have been fitted out by Digby Installation Services (DIS), a long-term installation partner of SIS LIVE.
Argosy supplied all the cable and connectors to SIS LIVE for the project. It also provided the mains distribution panels for each rack, ensuring that clean and stable power was available for all the electronics.
We have worked with SIS LIVE for some time, for instance kitting out the new OB 14 last year, said Darren Digby of DIS. On that project we found that Belden co-ax cable and ADC BNC connectors provided one of the best combination, both for us as installers and in the long term for signal quality. We like the combination and recommend it to all our customers.
Ian Davies, Argosy's MediaCityUK branch manager, added, We like to think we are more than simply a distributor, but that we provide a real technical support service. In this instance, our regional support and stock, which is available at our Salford facility, were instrumental factors in Argosy being able to support the move for SIS LIVE. Additionally, thanks to our recommendation for a well-matched combination of cable and connectors, we see big orders from many broadcasters and systems integrators.
It really is important to have connectors matched to cables, and the right tools for the connectors, if you are not going to risk impairing HD-SDI, he added. At Argosy we can guide you to the right solution for your application, and supply very large quantities from stock.
The Argosy team will be on stand 10.C51 at IBC2013 to talk about the importance of matching connectors to cable, discuss the relative merits of copper and fibre, and demonstrate the range of specialist devices and infrastructure in the Argosy product range.
