The Hope You Promised Love: a spectacular new short film for online audiences

Neon Picturesis delighted to launch the short film The Hope You Promised Love'.

Written and directed by Jack Weatherley, and co-directed by Neon, The Hope You Promised Love' is a beautiful film that plays its dramatic scene in reverse chronology.

The film stars Jim Sturgess(One Day, Cloud Atlas, Across the Universe) and Stacy Martin (Nymphomaniac, High Rise, Tale of Tales).

Filmed on location in an early Georgian merchants house near Spitalfields in London, the narrative plays out in a single shot that seamlessly combines live action and 100% CG.

The soundtrack is provided by the track I've Got a Future' by TOYDRUM, featuring the powerful lyrics and vocals of Gavin Clark, who sadly passed away in February of last year, and to whom the film is dedicated.

Tom Bridges, MD of Neon, commented: We were delighted to be asked to collaborate in bringing Jack's script to life. It was challenging, but the problems - both technical and creative - which presented themselves as we developed the project, have been hugely rewarding to solve. Gavin's tragic death added a poignancy to the film which we obviously didn't anticipate when we started out, and meant that he was in mind for everyone involved at every stage of the process.

From Jack Weatherley: This film started as a single image in my mind: a teardrop in reverse. From there an abstraction of a scene developed. The challenge was going to be creating the world of that scene, realising it in the level of detail I wanted to. Having seen some of Neons previous work, I knew theyd be able to create something extraordinary, which they really have done. The haunting song Ive Got a Future' by TOYDRUM and Gavin Clark fitted the tone of the film perfectly, becoming its soundtrack but tragically Gavin passed away two weeks after we shot the film. Gavin was a true artist, profoundly talented and a beautiful soul. We dedicate the film to him.

The sumptuous live-action cinematography was filmed by DoP Paul O'Callaghanand the atmospheric sound design was by Box Of Toys Audio, both longtime Neon collaborators. All CGI and post production was carried out in-house at Neon.

Following his short film Pieces', The Huffington Post declared that in Jack Weatherley A clear voice in British cinema has arrived. The film premiered at the BFI London Film Festival and screened in competition at the Leeds International Film Festival, nominated in the Best British Short category. Jack's first film Straight Way Lost' premiered at the BFI London Film Festival in 2011, before having a successful run on the international festival circuit and being picked up for broadcast distribution. In 2012 Jack collaborated with band Unkle on The Score' a musical exploration of the Euro 2012 tournament and which screened in over 100 countries. Jack has been named a director to watch by MovieScope magazine, is mentored by Peter Strickland on Guiding Lights, Europes most prestigious film mentoring scheme, and is developing his first feature.

Creative studio Neon are well known and respected for both their commercial and short film work. Their outstanding film for Woolmark Lost & Found' is multi-awarding winning, whilst their experimental short Macro' garnered millions of hits when it was released online. They have also produced work for clients that include ITV, Fox Sports, Vans, and Channel 4, and - most recognisably - commercials for Sky.
