Turner Broadcasting First Company Granted Maker Faire License to Organize Mini Maker Faire for Employees-

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS, Inc.) has been issued the first-ever company granted Maker Faire license to host an internal Mini Maker Faire for employees at its Atlanta offices later this month. The agreement with the worldwide maker movement brand allows Turner to organize a private showcase of makings from its employees and using the Maker Faire model and brand. These licenses are typically issued to communities and cities to organize Maker Faires open to the public.

The Turner Mini Maker Faire will coincide with a day of panels in which employees will hear first hand from trends experts about how the maker movement and other macro trends are shaping the industry. This immersive employee experience provides a company-wide collaboration space for new applications, products and businesses for Turner Broadcasting entertainment brands. The two-day event was spearheaded by TBS, Inc.'s Turner Media Group, which identifies marketplace influences and trends. Additionally, Turner supports an ongoing makerspace for employees who are passionate about the movement and work beyond their daily roles to integrate maker inspired ideas into the company.

Rather than asking us to produce a Mini Maker Faire for them as we've done in the past for a few corporations, Turner wanted to create its own maker event featuring its employees. Early on, Turner staff demonstrated true knowledge and appreciation of the culture which gave us confidence that their event would embody the spirit of the movement and stay true to the Maker Faire brand, said Sabrina Merlo, program director for Maker Faire. Our goal is to bring more makers together, and we are thrilled that a company like Turner understands the value of connecting its business to the maker movement and discovering and celebrating the makers among them.

Together, the Turner Mini Maker Faire and the day-long conference presents a hands-on experiential platform for employees to share their creations, hone their innovations and generate new ideas together, said Holly Wasson, vice president, asset management, who leads TBS Inc's Insights & Inspirations team. In addition to the business impact events like these can have, our hope is to also tap into the creativity and personal talents of our employees and positively evolve how we work and play.

The Turner Mini Maker Faire will also feature projects from established local Atlanta makerspaces, including Freeside, MASS Collective, Decatur Makers and more.
