Barnsley Hospital's Forward Thinking Proves to be a Smart Investment

In 2016, Barnsley Hospital underwent a substantial departmental overhaul which resulted in improved patient experience, workflow efficiencies, cost savings and higher staff morale. As part of this project, the hospital installed Fujifilm's Retrofit solution in three CR rooms which delivered a cost effective DR upgrade to aging CR assets with minimal disruption. This investment gave immediate benefits including an average 36% productivity uplift per room, improved patient workflow and a 20% reduction in dose.

But these short term benefits were only part of the plan. As budget becomes available to complete full room refits, the detectors and consoles from the Retrofit rooms are now being repurposed into new Fujifilm Visionary Suite rooms. The flexibility of the Fujifilm Retrofit solution means that the system provides a long-term investment that can be repurposed with any analogue room or mobile, or any Fujifilm DR room or DR mobile. The first Visionary Suite room has now been installed at Barnsley Hospital.

Barnsley Hospital enjoy the full range of Fujifilm digital imaging equipment, encompassing the Visionary Suite room solution, the Retrofit for CR rooms, the FDR Go mobile and an FDR nano mobile (as well as two AMULET Innovality mammography systems in the Breast Unit). At the heart of the Fujifilm DR portfolio is the D-EVO II detector, and the ability to share the detectors between all systems means efficient workflow and image processing which the team really value.

The new Visionary Suite has been installed in our main plain film room and we are finding it to be flexible to the needs of all groups of patients. The remote positioning makes it quick to set up for examinations and has reduced moving and handling for the team. The stitching software has significantly reduced our examination time for leg length measurements, and the D-EVO II detectors with Virtual Grid and Dynamic Visualization II have led to improved image quality for all trolley work.
