Continuous career by offering innovative solutions in studio monitors Focal It has restated completely the concept of near-field monitors, as evidenced by its new line Shape. Recently launched in the past Frankfurt Musikmesse, these three models 40 Shape, Shape 50 and 65 Shape, entirely made in France, include double passive radiators and new woofers and tweeters. Designed for demanding environments, they combine an artful design, a wide range of technologies of Focal and a varied choice of settings to be optimized depending on our listening room acoustics. Simultaneously to this Focal launch it has discontinued monitors CMS series, released in 2008.

These three monitors are immediately recognized thanks to its unique design. In fact, top and front are presented in Walnut Finish. It is presentation is the perfect complement to design for their new cones Flax, as in the case of higher series models.

New woofers

The development of the technologies of the drivers is part of the DNA of Focal. The new sandwich Flax cones are composed of two materials: glass fiber and flax fiber. Combined as a sandwich - flax fiber layer is between two layers of fiberglass - they offer high rigidity, incredibly light weight and a low elasticity. Finally, along with its composition of cellulose, guarantees an excellent buffer to these cones. These new materials provide a major improvement on its predecessors CMS Polyglass cones.

Inverted dome tweeter

Focal has improved its famous aluminum-magnesium with two mechanical innovations inverted dome tweeter: the new tweeter M-shaped and a dedicated hanger, as used in the SM6 and SM9 lines tweeters. The M-shaped inverted tweeter offers a directivity even lower than the original inverted dome tweeter, which translates into a greater flexibility when it comes to the location of the monitors for listening. Mechanically speaking, the M shaped tweeter provides greater rigidity, reducing even more, possible distortions. In addition to this, hanger Poron allows a much more linear response below 6 kHz curve. Finally the counterbore is designed to provide an equal directivity both horizontally and vertically.

Dual passive radiator

Dual passive radiator is an ingenious solution that allows you to combine a compact enclosure with a wide response in low frequencies in a same monitor, and, in addition, provides a location of comfortable listening according to the characteristics of our study. In fact, when systems with bass reflex ports meets its limits in terms of integration (requires a port long enough so that it coincides with the surface), passive radiator becomes the ideal solution. In addition, due to its low frequency tuning allows that monitors can be placed close to a wall.

Finally, point out that all models include class-AB to provide optimal control in all the dynamic range of the audio signal. Each monitor has a filter shelving for high and low frequencies. The crossover to 160 Hz (+/-3dB) allows for correction of parasitic reflections due to the collation of the monitors on a table blends or reverberant areas. In addition they are equipped with an adjustable high-pass filter.

All Shape monitors are presented with four prongs of decoupling finished in rubber to improve the isolation with surface contact. They also include two protective screens that do not require tools to be able to be removed.
