Documentary feature Frackman inspired viewers to take action watch now

Screen Australia's Indigenous Department are calling for Indigenous screen content makers from around the country who are passionate about environmental issues to apply for a special factual initiative State of Alarm. Previous screen credits are not essential, but applicants are required to submit a pitch video outlining their concept.

State of Alarm aims to develop compelling stories that look at the traditional practices of Indigenous people and how they can be used to combat climate change. These stories should not only challenge the status quo, but provide insights and provoke thought about Indigenous solutions to universal environmental issues.

The successful projects can be either standalone documentaries of up to 25 minutes in length, or series proposals of 5 to 7 minute episodes and totaling 25 minutes. Projects should appeal to a global audience and be aimed primarily at the 18 35 year old demographic.

State of Alarm is a two-stage initiative. In the first stage, up to eight projects will be selected for development funding. Successful creative teams will take part in a workshop in December 2017 to develop their concepts. In the second stage, a shortlist of projects will be selected for production funding.

We're looking for ambitious projects that offer a unique Indigenous perspective on this significant global issue, said Penny Smallacombe, Head of the Indigenous Department at Screen Australia. We have seen how Australian documentaries such as War on Waste and Frackman have provoked audiences to act. We look forward to working with the successful creative teams to bring more stories to our screens that have the potential to inspire real change.

The deadline for applications is Monday 23 October 2017. Successful applicants will be announced in late November 2017.
