Barco first European company to achieve Chinese product certification in-house Kortrijk, Belgium, 12 October 2017 - As part of the strategic initiative to improve both operational excellence and its focus on emerging regions, Barco managed to speed up the Chinese certification process for its products through authorized in-house testing, and as a result, improve its time to market in China.

Accelerating time-to-market with faster CCC certification for Barco products

The Chinese market is an emerging market that opens up opportunities and new revenue streams for companies worldwide. To ensure worry-free import of products into this market, compliance with the China Compulsory Certificate (CCC) is required.

The process for achieving the CCC mark is complex and strictly regulated. Thanks to the Chinese Witnessed Manufacturer's Testing program, Barco has accomplished to install a fast track procedure for its future certification of new products. It means Barco's testing laboratory is now recognized as an authorized facility that meets the Chinese requirements for CCC certification.

First European witness lab It is exceptional for non-Chinese companies to achieve the WMT recognition. We are the first CQC authorized European company and the second company outside China that received access to the WMT program for our Belgian Product Validation Lab. We are now able to receive CCC certificates within 4 weeks after obtaining the international product safety test report and EMC test report, says Tom Claeys, Barco's Certification Engineer.

Faster time-to-Chinese market Before, the certification process could easily take up to four months, as products had to be shipped to China for testing, causing delays in time to market. Now, testing in Barco's in-house Product Validation Test Lab located in its headquarters in Belgium is witnessed and audited by the China Quality Certification Center (CQC), one of the most important certification bodies in China, and the China Certification Group (CCG/CHEARI), a European agent specialized in supporting European companies to achieve quick Chinese certification for their products.

Strategic focus Based on multiple successful audits by CQC and CCG/CHEARI, Barco received the WMT recognition. Thanks to the flexibility of the Chinese government, the commitment of the Chinese Quality certification center, and our European agent as well as the great support from the Beijing offices, we achieved major efficiency gains in the certification process. For example, the cost of witnessed testing is much lower than sending products to Chinese laboratories for testing, adds Dora Deboeure, Barco's Product Validation Expert.

Thanks to this strategic effort, Barco has been able to streamline its international market access process and will be able to serve its Chinese customers with a faster time-to-market while guaranteeing product quality and safety. This fits in Barco's overall strategic goal to improve operational excellence and increase its focus on the emerging markets, concludes Jimmy Dirickx, Barco's NPI Services Manager.
