MODO Halloween Contest Winners Congratulations Brian Vowles, Peter Eriksson, Pascal Nocquet and Tomas Sciskala!

This year marked our first-ever MODO Halloween Contest and it was a lot of fun. MODO artists of all kinds jumped in and scared up some amazing images and animations.

The contest ran from Friday 13th September for just over a month and a half, and we were very excited to have a special guest judge for this contest - design heavyweight Mr Neville Page (of Star Trek, TRON: Legacy and Avatar fame).

For the first time we had an animation category and many took the opportunity to explore MODO's deep rigging system as well as the Automatic Character Setup Kit. The results ranged from funny to downright creepy. Brian Vowles won with his creepy short, Pumpkin Head which you can watch on the right.

We spoke to Brian about his disturbing animation and what inspired him. One of his inspirations was the David Cronenberg film, Dead Zone. The Best Rendered Image award was easily the most difficult category for the judges. Peter Eriksson took the honors with his Halloween Circus. What started out as an animated creepy clown ended up becoming a creepy carousel, rendered in black and white. Eriksson says the mummy took the longest to make of all of the creatures and to look for an animated version of the carousel early next year. We can't wait.

The lucky winners Peter and Brian each won a seat of MARI for their efforts, but it wasnt easy, just check out the other entrees to see the tough competition.

In addition to best image and animation, we also had a best submission to our Share site category. Our Share site is full of user-submitted materials, models, scenes, animations and scripts. Pascal Nocquet's impersonating pumpkin scene shows off the rigging capabilities of MODO, you can watch his animation on here. Tomas Sciskala impressed us with a plethora of Halloween-themed materials including blood-shot eyes, pumpkin skin and green slime, take a look for yourself. The judging ended in a tie, so both Pascal and Tomas have won an upgrade to the next version of MODO. Thanks to everyone who took the time to enter and congratulations to all the winners, we look forward to doing it all again next year!

The Halloween contest may have ended, but the Holiday Image contest has just begun. The winner of the Holiday Image contest will have their image featured in our holiday greeting this year AND they will be rewarded with a copy of NUKEX. Like our previous MODO contests, there will be a random draw just for participating in the contest. We encourage everyone to take part, share and maybe learn a few tips and tricks, just take a look at some of the fantastic work in progress at the moment for inspiration.
