NAB 2026: Blackmagic Design Announces DaVinci Resolve 21

Blackmagic Design has announced DaVinci Resolve 21, with a public beta available now for download. The update will be demonstrated at NAB Show 2026 (Booth N2502).

The new Photo page in DaVinci Resolve 21 brings Hollywood's most advanced color tools to still photography for the first time, says Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. Professional colorists and photographers now have access to the full DaVinci color toolset and are able to build complex grades in a node based workflow that goes far beyond the layer based approach. They can also use all the DaVinci AI tools, ResolveFX and FusionFX and collaborate globally in real time. It's going to be amazing to see creativity flourish with these tools.

Photo Page

The primary new feature is a Photo page that integrates still image editing into DaVinci Resolve's existing color workflow. Users can import and manage photographs, apply node-based color grading using the full DaVinci color toolset including primary correction, curves, qualifiers, power windows, and the node editor. Images can be reframed and cropped at original source resolution. The Photo page supports LUTs, Resolve FX, and Open FX plug-ins.

LightBox view provides an overview of an entire album with grades applied, updating across the collection in real time. Albums can be organized by shoot day, camera model, or other criteria, and appear as timelines on the Color, Cut, and Edit pages. Camera Controls support tethered capture from Sony or Canon cameras directly into DaVinci.

The Photo page integrates with Blackmagic Cloud for multi-user collaboration, allowing shared access to albums, metadata, grades, and effects.

AI Tools

IntelliSearch: Search media for objects, keywords in dialogue, or individual faces.

Speech Generator: Generates speech from written text using Blackmagic voice models or a user-provided voice sample of at least 10 seconds.

CineFocus: Defines focal point with adjustable aperture, focal range, bokeh, and keyframeable rack focus.

Face Age Transformer: Adds or removes age-related facial features on a tracked face.

Face Reshaper: Adjusts position and shape of eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, and overall face shape on a tracked subject.

Blemish Removal: Reduces skin imperfections while retaining skin texture.

Slate ID: Detects and extracts metadata from slate clapperboards automatically.

UltraSharpen: Sharpening tool for upscaled or slightly out-of-focus footage.

Motion Deblur: Reduces motion blur artifacts from video content.

Editing and Effects

Keyframing updates include loop, pingpong, and relative ease animation modes, simultaneous multi-clip adjustments, normalized zoom in the curves editor, and four-point Bezier easing for video retiming.

Fusion effects can now be adjusted directly in the keyframes and curves editors of the Cut and Edit pages.

Native support for OGraf HTML graphics and Lottie animations (.json and .lottie files) with alpha channel recognition.

Multi-language spell check, font browser, emoji support, and character-level styling for text elements.

Smart bins in the Cut page for media pool filtering.

MultiMaster trim manager for generating multiple HDR and SDR deliverables from a single timeline.

Magic Mask render in place option for caching tracked masks as traveling matte nodes.

Node graphs can now be viewed as a layer list.

Fusion

Krokodove compositing library added, including utility tools, vector and data tools, and 2D and 3D graphic templates.

Updated macro editor with inspector view and publishing support.

Fairlight Animator modifier drives Fusion animation from audio levels.

USD SDK updated to version 25.11 with Hydra 2.0 API for the Storm renderer, supporting 3D matte objects and textures, USD Texture Projector and Catcher.

Audio tracks can be assigned to folders and collapsed into a composite view in the timeline.

Immersive

Apple Immersive support adds foveated rendering.

Support for VR180 and VR360 delivery presets for Meta Quest and YouTube VR.

Panomap spherical rotation and ILPD retargeting data in the Fusion page.

Other Updates

Picture in Picture Resolve FX for resizing and repositioning video clips as floating frames.

IntelliScript now supports Final Draft and plain text screenplay formats.

Media pool metadata panel adds five-star clip rating and Good Take/Untagged/Rejected tagging.
