Change in ownership for Nu Metro Cinemas --

Subcocept (Pty) Ltd, a company funded by private equity firm One Fifty Capital, has recently bought Nu Metro Cinemas and its associated cinema advertising business, Popcorn Cinema Advertising Sales, from Times Media Group (TMG).

The change in ownership brings with it innovations and upgrades that will offer cinemagoers convenience and exclusive luxury viewing.

Julian Kannigan, commercial director at One Fifty Capital, explains that the company will be working together with Nu Metros existing young and innovative management team to take a fresh approach in creating an owner-managed business.

Luke Roberts, general manager of Nu Metro, says: Nu Metro Cinemas is a progressive cinema business with a true focus on delivering a premium entertainment experience. Our commitment to the constant evolution of the cinema is demonstrated by the recent countrywide upgrade of all 149 screens to a 100% digital platform. Through this upgrade, cinemagoers can now enjoy a world-class audiovisual experience.

Nu Metro has introduced a luxury VIP cinema experience, Scene, which boasts luxurious, fully reclining leather seats and an exclusive lounge and bar that offers freshly prepared light meals, snacks and beverages. The first of its kind in South Africa, Scene has proved extremely popular at Durban s Pavilion and Cape Town s V&A shopping malls.

One Fifty Capital will continue to roll out this luxury cinema concept at selected sites around the country, beginning with Hyde Park Corner in Johannesburg, says Kannigan. We will also be further rolling out the new IMAX 3D experience at Menlyn Park, Pretoria and Canal Walk in Cape Town.

Customers will also soon be able to preview movies, check show times, book tickets and have their tickets electronically delivered with the introduction of the Nu Metro App for iPhone, iPad and Android.

Our app will please avid social media users by giving them the option to share experiences on Facebook and Twitter as well as update friends as to when and where theyll be attending a movie.

With One Fifty Capital, Nu Metro now has the resources to give South African customers the truly unique and memorable world-class cinematic experience they deserve, concludes Kannigan.
