The 2013 AICP Show & AICP Next Awards Shortlists Released NEW YORK April 26, 2013 Matt Miller, President and CEO of the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP), today announced the AICP Show & AICP Next Awards Shortlists. The winners of the AICP Show and AICP Next Awards will be revealed during AICP Week, a celebration of advertising in the motion image. Last night, AICP revealed the Shortlists at events in New York and Los Angeles for 500-plus AICP Show & AICP Next Awards Judges, the AICP Show Board of Governors, the AICP Show Curatorial Committee, and the AICP Show Committee. All shortlisted pieces may be viewed at http://awards.zesteronline.com/aicp/shortlist/. The 2013 AICP Show Chairman is Michael Di Girolamo, Partner/Executive Producer at Station Film; the 2013 AICP Next Awards Judging Chair is Bob Greenberg, Founder, Chairman/CEO of R/GA.
On the AICP Show Shortlist, MJZ was the top production company, with 27 projects; Biscuit Filmworks has 21 pieces on the list, while Smuggler has 15 projects on the list. For agencies, work from various offices of Wieden+Kennedy topped the list with 42 pieces; offices of BBH had 16 spots on the list, while offices of BBDO and Grey have 10 projects each on the list.
For the AICP Next Awards shortlist, R/GA topped the list with nine pieces on the production/development company side, while @radical.media was on six times. Biscuit Filmworks, DDB and MJZ all have four projects on the list. R/GA was the top agency on the Next shortlist with 10 pieces, while offices of McCann, Wieden+Kennedy and Wunderman each have nine projects on the list.
We look forward to seeing the final disposition of the Show and Next Awards during AICP Week, said Miller. The Shortlist highlights the amazing work of our judges, as well as the collaboration and creativity of our industry.
Announcing AICP Week
The AICP Show & AICP Next Awards will debut during AICP Week, which will take place in New York City June 4th June 6th. The Week kicks off with the AICP Next Awards on June 4th at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. The Next Awards this year for the first time being held on its own night with a cocktail reception recognizes outstanding work, and the creative forces behind it. Greenberg will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. This year the Next Awards revamped its judging process. Greenberg handpicked eight Jury Presidents, who selected judges based on their area of expertise. The Jury Presidents are: Jeff Benjamin of JWT (Product Integration); Gerry Graf of Barton F. Graf 9000 (Viral/Web Film); Jill Nussbaum of The Barbarian Group (Website/Microsite); Tiffany Rolfe of Co:Collective (Cause Marketing); Ian Schafer of Deep Focus (Social); Ian Spalter of Foursquare (Mobile); Mark Tutssel of Leo Burnett (Integrated Campaign); and Mark Waites of Mother (Experiential). Each Jury President established a stellar panel of judges who selected the winners of the 2013 AICP Next Awards.
In addition to showcasing the winners of all categories, the creators of each winning Integrated Campaign piece will present case studies exploring the creative and strategic thinking behind each honored piece. The winner of the Most Next Award, which is the Best in Show honor that exemplifies from among the Next categories the most innovative and forward thinking work of the year, will be announced.
June 5th marks the return of the AICP Directors Lecture Series at The Museum of Modern Art, longtime home of the AICP Show: The Art & Technique of the American Commercial. This event is a revival of sorts of the popular series that ran in conjunction with the AICP Show from the early 1990s to mid-2000s. The Lecture Series took a hiatus to focus on other areas, and is back to turn the lens onto the directorial talent that has steered our business for years, and is driving innovation in today's exciting times. Details of the AICP Directors Lecture Series will be announced soon.
On June 6th, the world-renowned AICP Show will premiere at The Museum of Modern Art with a screening and gala. Tickets and more information about AICP Week will be available at www.aicp.com.
