SMC Hosts Prominent Lebanese Media Figures

As part of its participation in the 32nd edition of Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) is hosting a number of the most renowned writers and newspaper editors in Lebanon, which has been selected as the Guest of Honor at this year's SIBF due to its significant influence on Arab thought and culture.

This move mirrors the aspirations of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to honor the leading intellectual and cultural role played by Lebanon throughout its history.

SMC's hosting of Lebanon's most prominent writers and media professionals comes in recognition of their contribution to the enrichment of the Lebanese cultural, intellectual and creative reserves. SMC's most notable guests include Zahi Wehbe, Zaven Kouyoumdjian, Tony Khalifa and Dr. May Chidiac, Founder & President of the May Chidiac Foundation-Media Institute, Maggie Farah, Gabi Latif, Chantal Srour, as well as a number of well-known writers and newspaper editors, including Talal Salman, Editor of Assafir Newspaper, Ghassan Hajjar, Managing Editor of Annahar Newspaper, and Sahar Taha of Al Mustaqbal Newspaper.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi, Chairman of SMC, stressed the importance of the presence of the Lebanese media elite, especially that Lebanon has been selected as the Guest of Honor at this year's SIBF to represent another culture and highlight its march of progress, which is based on building cultures through literary, intellectual and artistic events that draw the participation of prominent local, regional and international figures.

SMC's Chairman said: Based on our vision in promoting the cultural role of Sharjah, in compliance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan, and given the informational and cultural value of this event, we have set up an entire pavilion for Sharjah Media Centre. Visitors of our pavilion can acquaint themselves with the various cultural and media activities and programs organized by Sharjah Media Centre throughout the whole year, including, most importantly, the International Government Communication Forum.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qassimi added that SMC has assigned a team of experts to provide all forms of media support and set up a fully-equipped press center at Expo Centre Sharjah to serve media professionals covering SIBF 2013 and facilitate their communication with the local and international media.
