IABM Training reaches every corner of the globe with new online programme
E-learning and virtual classroom' courses provide the industry with access to widest ever training schedule
The award-winning IABM Training Academy is set to launch a new e-learning and first ever virtual classroom courses to deliver training to the broadcast and media technologies industry.
The first virtual classroom' course, Understanding File Formats', is scheduled to run between 3-7 August in a UK time slot, and 10-14 August in a North American time slot. Interested parties can take advantage of some last minute availability on the course, which has been designed to deliver five separate two hour long modules and combines the ease of e-learning with the learning experience of tutor-led sessions.
Steve Warner, Head of Training, IABM says: These virtual courses take the classroom straight to the desks of those working in the industry. The courses are led by highly-experienced instructors, and combine all the advantages of a classroom course. Participants will have the ability to interact with other students, put their hand up to ask questions or even go into a break-out room for smaller group discussions.
For the last four years IABM Training Academy has been successfully delivering classroom courses in a number of geographical locations. Due to constraints of releasing staff and the logistics of travelling to courses, there has been an increasing demand for courses to be put into an e-learning format.
Warner said: Many of the subjects that we deliver aren't suitable for the traditional e-learning style which is why we decided to introduce this type of Live-online' training, so delegates can still get engaging and impactful live, instructor-led training, regardless of their location.
There are some topics that will be delivered through true e-learning and these will be available in late summer. Our first course will address the confusion in the industry surrounding the topic of IP based delivery. The course reflects our whole ethos of meeting our members' needs for training requirements in specific areas.
The brand new e-learning course titled Understanding IP and file based delivery' is currently in its final planning stages. This will be a self-paced course delivered through the Academy's Learning Management System and will consist of seven self-contained modules looking at the full spectrum of broadcast infrastructure from an introduction to the technology and systems, to acquisition, rights management and delivery and distribution. The e-learning element will be delivered through Adobe Connect and can be accessed via a specific address that will be supplied to delegates.
IABM Training will also continue on with the success of its traditional classroom-based courses with the launch of a brand new half day workshop based around video compression, specifically looking at the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard. The first session will be delivered on Thursday 10 September at IBC2015 in Amsterdam, and will cover the reasons HEVC has been introduced, where it can be implemented, and an overview of the technology involved. Following IBC, a full programme of HEVC training courses will be released in the coming months throughout the UK, APAC and North American regions.
Elsewhere in the world, classroom courses are already underway in Dubai in partnership with UBMS, with the next session covering Network Essentials for Broadcast Engineers scheduled in August. There is also a brand new schedule planned for North America and Canada, it will start in Autumn and run until the end of the year and incorporate the Academy's full curriculum of classroom-based courses.
Earlier this year the IABM Training Academy won the Association Excellence Award for the Best Training Initiative. The award was sponsored by GCN Talent and presented at the QEII Centre Westminster by Michael Portillo. The Academy was praised for recognising the need to facilitate an education and training programme for its members, conducting a detailed Training Needs Analysis into the requirements of the sector and offering scheduled courses throughout the year.
