CHICAGO - May 5, 2015 - INTX Booth 1414 - Edgeware, the leader in video delivery networks, today announced that TVI (Televisi n Internacional, S.A. de C.V), part of Multimedios and Televisa Group, the largest cable operator in Latin America, has chosen Edgeware's VCP Edge solution, as part of Edgeware's next-generation Video Consolidation Platform (VCP), to roll out a new network-based catch-up TV and cloud DVR service. Edgeware's VCP Edge solution enables Multimedios to deliver these new compelling services, along with its existing video on demand (VOD) offering, from one unified delivery platform to all devices.
With more than 80 percent of consumers in Mexico watching video content online, over-the-top (OTT) video services are increasingly competing with cable and telecom operators' own offerings. Service providers are challenged to add new advanced services to both existing set-top boxes (STBs) and new multiscreen devices. Multimedios faced this challenge and its current infrastructure was not capable.
Finding a solution that would meet our customers' demand for premium live and on-demand content on any device, with a high quality of experience and in a cost-effective and scalable way was a huge challenge, said Jorge Arturo Diaz Cardenas, CTO at Multimedios. Unlike other solutions that would force us to duplicate our infrastructure to serve our existing STBs while adding multiscreen clients, the Edgeware VCP Edge provides a single platform for all services and devices.
As one of the most-respected operators in Mexico, TVI's pressure from subscribers for the latest in services will not cease anytime soon, said Joachim Roos, CEO at Edgeware. Edgeware is perfectly suited to not only provide the agility TVI needs to meet customer demands for next-generation services, but also to scale as needed to assure it maintains its leading position in Mexico.
Edgeware's VCP Edge provides best-in-class caching and streaming to more than 10 million TV and video subscribers worldwide and is part of the new VCP solution, which extends to include state-of-the-art origin servers, the VCP Origin. The Edgeware VCP can help cable and telecom operators reduce capex by at least 50 percent while offering the highest quality wire speed performance from one unified platform. Both the VCP Edge and the VCP Origin are made up of two main components, the Orbit hardware platform and the Convoy SDN Management Software.
