Great news: Cape Town named as one of the best cities in the world [photos]

It's happened again. Cape Town has pulled out another big performance on the international stage, coming 12th in Time Out's Best Cities in the World to Visit poll. Despite the challenges posed by the recent drought, the Mother City has managed to keep pace with the big boys once more.

Cape Town shines once more The publication surveyed a whopping 34 000 people in their study, made-up of other city-dwellers and Time Out contributors. They were asked about the food, drink, culture, nightlife, community, neighbourhoods, overall happiness and other factors, such as their city's beauty, affordability and convenience

Cape Town felt the love from both its own residents and the international community, ranking above the likes of Barcelona, Toronto and Miami. It's a good day to be smug if you're a Capetonian!

Melbourne, Australia comes second and it's back to the USA to complete the top three, with Chicago taking bronze. London and Los Angeles make up the top five.

Most visitors to South Africa come for safaris, and Cape Town doesn't really cater to that taste - but don't overlook this instantly likeable and captivating city.

Nine out of ten Capetonians agree that their city is beautiful, with Table Mountain forming one of the most stunning urban backdrops in the world, and few other cities can offer mountain hiking, lazing on a beach, and checking out a vibrant food and drink scene all in one day.

Back in December, Cape Town was listed as The Telegraph's Best City in the World . Even its quirky suburbs are turning heads: Kalk Bay was named as one of the Coolest Neighbourhoods in the World by Forbes in 2018, too.
