The UK's secretary of state for digital, culture, media and sport, Nadine Dorries, has approved the appointment of Dawn Airey and Tess Alps to the board of Channel 4.

They join David Kogan and Sarah Sands as the newest appointees, with all four serving a term of three years commencing as soon as is practicable .

Alps began her career in advertising before joining global media buying agency PHD, where she became UK chair. She spent over 14 years at Thinkbox, the marketing body for commercial television in the UK, as its CEO and eventually its chair.

Kogan worked at the BBC before spending nine years at Reuters Television, latterly as managing director, global. Sands is a former editor of the BBC's Today programme.

Ofcom is required under the Broadcasting Act 1990 to appoint non-executive members to the Channel 4 Board. It said global executive search firm, Saxton Bampfylde, led the search for the new members.

Ofcom's interim chair, Maggie Carver chaired the recruitment panel and was joined by Channel 4 chairman, Charles Gurassa and two independent panel members, Libby Watkins and Cindy Butts, said the regulator.
