Popular actor Evan Peters says playing serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in Netflix's Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer story series was one of the hardest things he's ever had to do.

I WAS SCARED ABOUT ALL THE THINGS JEFFREY DAHMER DID' The talented actor Evan Peter adds that he knew playing the notorious killer Jeffrey Dahmer in the Netflix series was going to be tough.

What helped him was building trust with director Ryan Murphy, who he previously worked with on American Horror Story (AHS).

I was very scared about all of the things Dahmer did and diving into that and trying to commit to playing this character, he says. It felt important to be respectful to the victims and their families, to try to tell the story as authentically as we could.

According to You Magazine, Peter almost quit acting two years ago because of the dark characters he played which left him drained and depressed.

The publication adds that he's tipped for the Best Actor Emmy for his portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer in the hit Netflix series.

BACKGROUND OF EVEN PETER'S CHARACTER The serial killer and cannibal murdered 17 people between 1978 and 1991 his victims were mostly young gay men of colour.

The show drew in 196,2 million hours within five days and took the No 1 spot on the streaming platform in several countries, including South Africa.

We had one rule going into this, from Ryan, that it would never be told from Dahmer's point of view. You're not sympathising with him. You're not really getting into his plight. You're more, sort of, watching it from the outside, he says.

You need to have certain plot points because he did these things. But you don't need to embellish them. We get it, we don't need to see it over and over again.

Peter prepared for the character by watching old videos and reading police reports about Jeffrey Dahmer.

Ryan told me to also watch the interview and I immediately went to YouTube and watched it. Dahmer is interesting in that he's almost regretful and has guilt and sort of confusion about what went on, he says. He's docile, aloof, and almost disassociated from what he did.
