Poets/Writers /Artists/Film Makers /Publishers/ Authors 2019 Constitution Hill Human Rights Festival

Constitution Hill will be hosting its 2nd Annual Human Rights Festival 21-24 March 2019, under the theme 25 Years of Democracy . The Human Rights Festival commemorates Human Rights Day which pays homage to all those who lost their lives in the fight for democracy, particularly during the Sharpeville Massacre of 21 March 1960. It also highlights the work of social justice organizations and underlines the importance of civic activism, and the values and principles enshrined in the constitution- equality; justice; freedom and dignity

Constitution Hill hereby invites interested and suitable persons/organizations in the below categories to submit proposals to partner up with Constitution Hill.

1. Poetry Festival:

Individual Poets and Groups

Constitution Hill seeks applications from poets interested in participating in a session at the Human Rights festival on the afternoon of Friday and Saturday, 22 & 23 March 2019, focused on the theme of 25 years of Democracy. We hope to include a range of poets of different ages, professions, races and ethnicities, and stages of development.

A brief bio

Provide a bio of no more than 500 words and shorter is fine.

Work sample

Please provide two or three poems that you feel speak to the theme of the the poetry of intersections. If you're invited to read at the festival, you'll have the option of reading poems other than those you submit now (as long as they speak in some way to the theme), but we'll use the poems you submit now to get a sense of your style and approach to poetry.

Brief comment on the theme 25 Years of Democracy

Write one or two sentences on why you're interested in participating in a session on the poetry of intersections or on how you feel your poetry speaks to that theme. We're open to how you respond to the intersections theme and welcome a wide range of responses to it.

Poetry Societies/Organisations

Poetry Societies/Organisations and Individuals are invited to submit proposals to partner with Constitution hill to curate and host the poetry programme as part of the Human Rights Festival under the theme 25 years of Democracy for the afternoon of Friday and Saturday, 22 & 23 March 2019. Proposals should detail the line up with the names of performing poets and times of performance.

2. Book Fair

Writers/Publishers and Authors

Writers, publishers and authors are invited to submit proposals to partner with Constitutional Hill in the 2nd Annual Human Rights Festival (Book Fair), under the theme 25 Years of Democracy

The Book Fair will contribute to a writing and publishing movement that recognizes the importance of interrogating issues of human rights and activism through the might of a pen.

Brief comment on the theme 25 Years of Democracy

Briefly tell us why you think your work should be part of the Book Fair and how it addresses the theme of 25 Years of Democracy

Timeline

Applications are due by 18 February 2019, Constitution Hill plans to review received proposals in February 2019. We'll strive to let all applicants know the status of their application no later than the first week of March.

We may consider applicants for other events during the festival.

Submission Information

The Constitution Hill Human Rights Festival will be held 21 -24 March 2019. Sessions for above proposals will be on the 22&23 March 2019, successful applicants will be expected to be in Johannesburg for those days. Submissions can be made in any of the 11 official languages and must not be plagiarised work.

Submit it as a .pdf, .doc, or .docx attachment to kwara@conhill.org.za by 18 February 2019.

3. Film Festival

Film Productions Houses/ Directors & Producers

Constitution Hill, seeks applications from Film Production Houses/ Producers and Directors interested to participate in film screening session at the Human Rights festival on the afternoon of Thursday and Friday, 21 & 22 March 2019, focused on the theme of 25 years of Democracy. We hope to include a range of producers and directors of different ages, professions, races and ethnicities, and stages of development.

If you're a film production house/director/producer interested in being part of a film screening session and can be in Johannesburg on Thursday and Friday, 21 & 22 March 2019, please provide the following information and submit it as a .pdf, .doc, or .docx attachment to david@conhill.org.za by February 18, 2019.
