JT-NM progre: Request for Technology takes shape

A meeting in London later this month will put the finishing touches to a Request for Technology to be issued by the Joint Task Force on Networked Media.

The partners behind the Joint Task Force on Networked Media have been following an agressive timetable. JT-NM was formed as recently as April this year - by the EBU, SMPTE and the VSF - but is already on course to release a Request for Technology (RfT) ahead of IBC 2013.

A face-to-face meeting scheduled to take place in London later this month will put the final touches to the RfT before its release. The goal of the meeting is to present the draft document, answer questions and collect comments with a view to improving it and identifying any final issues that may have been overlooked.

Based on User Stories The use cases and requirements covered by the RfT will draw heavily on the "user stories" collected over the past two months. An open call for input asked contributors to formulate their business-driven requirements in terms of a media production role, a desired functionality, and the business value it would add. This has allowed the coordinators to build an RfT that matches the real world requirements of media users, including public service broadcasters.

This Q&A meeting will be of interest to any potential responder to the RfT. It will be hosted by BBC Research & Development in their South Lab facility at Centre House in London, but it will also be possible to follow the session online. It will take place on Tuesday 20 August, from 10.00 to 17.00 BST.
