SBS secures exclusive Tour de France rights until 2023

SBS has secured the exclusive broadcast rights to the Tour de France until 2023 in an historic 10 year agreement with the owners and organisers of the iconic race, Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.).
The rights deal, announced today in Le Bourg d'Oisans, France before the start of Stage 19 of the Tour de France, means SBS will be the only place to watch the Tour de France in Australia for the next 10 years. The agreement is the longest rights deal between SBS and A.S.O. and also covers all online and mobile rights.
Under the agreement for the Tour de France, SBS has the exclusive Australian rights to:
* Live coverage of every stage;
* Highlights;
* Pay TV rights;
* Extensive online and mobile rights.
The 10 year deal between SBS and A.S.O. also includes the television rights to the Vuelta, Paris-Roubaix, Liege Bastogne Liege, Fleche Wallonne, Criterium du Dauphine, Paris-Nice, Paris-Tours as well as the Dakar Rally and the Paris Marathon.
SBS Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Michael Ebeid said: SBS has built its expertise in cycling over the past two decades and we are now the premiere home of cycling in Australia. The Tour is at the heart of SBS and this agreement is wonderful news for Australian audiences who will be able to watch it on free-to-air television as well as all of our new media platforms for the next 10 years.
SBS has been with cycling since its beginning because we believe in giving exposure to sports which unite communities. Today, cycling is one of the most popular participation sports in the country and this agreement ensures it is accessible to all Australians in the future.

Yann Le Moenner, Managing Director A.S.O. said: This historical agreement is confirming the relation between SBS and ASO, which dates back more than 20 years and has seen the rise of some great Australian riders culminating in the victory of Cadel Evans in 2011.
It is a real privilege for ASO to receive such a long term commitment, and demonstration of confidence in the Tour de France, from SBS. We are very happy that, thanks to SBS's work, the enthusiastic public of a major cycling country, like Australia, will continue to experience all the joyful moments and emotions which are carried by the Tour de France.
The Tour de France is one of SBS's biggest sport properties and 2013 marks the 23rd year of SBS's broadcast of the event. 6 million Australians watched the Tour de France on SBS in 2012.
The Tour de France is broadcast on SBS over three weeks with nightly live coverage from 10pm on SBS ONE from Saturday 29 June to Monday 22 July. The final three nights' coverage will be broadcast this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10pm on SBS ONE.
