There are only three weeks to go until the TVBAwards return to London for a second year. The votes have been casted and the shortlists drawn up for each of the 17 awards, so before the winners are unveiled on the night, TVBEurope is taking a closer look at each category and its potential victors.
The Live Production category is new to this year's event and includes three awards which recognise the teams working together to deliver the best in live sports broadcast, live broadcast, and live broadcast sound.
Nominated for the Live Sports Broadcast award are a number of teams behind football, cycling, equestrian and motor events which took place over the past 12 months. Quest TV has been nominated for its coverage of the world's oldest active sports car endurance race Le Man 24hr, which included four live programmes and one highlights show. Despite not being a hugely well-known channel, the ratings for Quest TV outperformed their slot average and the team hopes to build on this success into 2016.
TVBAwards 2014 winner EVS is in the running again this year, with a nomination for its FA Cup Final live video solution. Partnering with EE, EVS provided selected fans at Wembley Stadium with enriched media content delivered directly to connected devices at the event in May this year.
French broadcast service provider AMP Visual TV has been nominated for the enhanced coverage it provided for the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris horse racing event. The team used the X10 UHD RF ultra motion wireless system developed by I-MOVIX, to shoot ultra slow-motion sequences at 800fps in HD, from a vehicle travelling at the same speed as the horses.
France Te le visions utilised the Avid MediaCentral Platform to produce daily highlights coverage of the world's most prestigious cycling race, the 2015 Tour de France, and has received a TVBAwards nomination as a result.
Finally, I-MOVIX was utilised with great success by Sky Italia to capture all the live action at the UEFA Champions League Final in Berlin, and as such the company is also up for the Live Sports Broadcast award.
The second honour in the Live Production category is for Live Broadcast, which included a number of political programmes. The AVIWEST DMNG system was deployed for TV2 Denmark's coverage of The Challenge, leading to an award nomination for the team. A unique take on political programming, The Challenge follows the two politicians debating an issue while driving.
Also nominated is TV3 for its coverage of local elections in May; the Live U and Sky news partnership for the UK general election 2015; and Blackmagic and Sky Arts for Election Night Live. Adding some diversity to the Live Broadcast award nominations, BBC Studios and Post Production is in the running for its work on week of live broadcasts of the popular soap Eastenders.
The final award in the category is Live Broadcast Sound, an area which is often overlooked. BBC S&PP's work on Eastenders Live has landed it a second nomination, and its no wonder, since the drama was watched by over 20 million people - 35 per cent of the UK population.
Freelancer Robert Edwards and his team have been nominated for their work on The X Factor, producing the live audio for the programme from Fountain Studios Wembley and on location at Wembley Arena.
Austrian broadcaster ORF and audio specialist Lawo have also been nominated for their technically innovation production of the Eurovision Song Contest, which was watched by 200 million viewers in 80 countries.
Finally, BBC and NEP Visions are up for the Live Broadcast Sound award for their work on the Proms 2015, an eight-week summer season of classical music concerts and other events held annually in London.
The winners of all 17 TVBAwards will be announced at the event on Thursday 22 October. The TVBAwards 2015 will this year be taking place at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in central London. Tickets are available now and include a drinks reception, gala dinner and after party.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available: for more information contact Ben Ewles (bewles@bewles@nbmedia.com) or Richard Carr (rcarr@nbmedia.com). Tickets for the event are available now via the event website.
