Reporter wins Rising Star Award in European Broadcasting Awards
RT News' Nick Sheridan has won the 2016 Prix CIRCOM Regional Rising Star Award. The 24 year old Wexford native has been awarded the honour by CIRCOM, the European Association of Regional Television. The 2016 Prix CIRCOM Gala Awards (the Oscars' of European Regional Television), honour the best European regional productions in a range of genres.
Nick Sheridan is a presenter of RT 's news2day, a daily news programme for younger viewers and has also reported for RT 's main news bulletins including the Six-One News, and Nationwide.
The Prix CIRCOM is the oldest and biggest European broadcast competition. This year's awards received a record number of over 200 entries this with the judging taking place in Serbia, by a jury of 14 television professionals from 13 European countries.
The Rising Star award looks to recognise the excellence of young on-screen television talent and to encourage young professionals to develop their careers in public service television in Europe's regions. The prize is of a value of 3,000 and includes an internship at a regional broadcaster in another European country. Nick will be presented with his award trophy at the Prix Awards Gala in Plovdiv, Bulgaria next month.
The presenter and journalist who joined RT and the news2day team in August 2014 said: I m over the moon to be selected as the Prix Circom Rising Star - it s a great honour to be chosen for this European award. I like to feel also that it s a special recognition of the work done on bringing news to young people in a fun, informative and engaging way. A massive thanks to the news2day team, and to all the cameramen who work with us so creatively every day."
This isn't the first international award that Nick has won, in 2009 he was named Young Irish Film-Maker of the Year and travelled to South Korea to attend the Seoul International Youth Film Festival.
CIRCOM, the European Association of Regional Television has members from 32 countries, with member stations representing more than 10,000 journalists and around 100 million viewers and listeners every day.
