The 2025.5 release helps artists work more efficiently with automatic face detection, seamless matte cleanups, improved 3D camera solves, and more.

Mocha Pro from Boris FX builds upon the famed planar tracking and masking plugin with new tools that simplify often tedious, time-consuming visual effects tasks. The 2025.5 release delivers effortless AI-driven face detection, new matte refinement within its AI masking, the ability to solve shots without camera movement, and an easily customizable export experience.

We carefully develop each Mocha Pro release to meet the real needs of artists. The 2025.5 release offers users even more ways to get the job done, states Boris Yamnitsky, president and founder of Boris FX. Our AI tools aid visual effects workflows by automating some of the more labor-intensive elements, such as masking and tracking faces (new in 2025.5), selecting objects, or generating animated mattes. By leveraging AI to tackle specific tasks, artists are free to focus their efforts on delivering stunning visible (and invisible) VFX that immerse audiences in any given project's world.

In addition to the new AI tools, our 2025.5 release includes major enhancements to Mocha Pro's 3D tracking capability, allowing artists to solve a wider range of shots, and introduces ACES 2.0 for better compatibility with the latest colour management pipelines, notes John-Paul Smith, CEO, Imagineer Systems. We've also made many quality of life improvements based on user feedback, making common tasks like tracking and exports quicker and easier than ever.

New AI Tool Mocha Pro includes three AI masking tools with the addition of Face Detection, which joins Object Brush ML and Matte Assist ML.

Face Detection is an accurate and speedy tool that saves users hours of painstaking masking by automatically detecting, tracking, and managing multiple faces in a shot. It's ideal for tasks such as hiding identities, selective blurring, or advanced color correction. The face layers include in- and out-points to manage workflows. A single spline keyframe is added to the layer to make it easier to manipulate the spline after the face mask is created.

The AI-driven Matte Assist ML tool receives a boost with flexible editing capabilities. Artists can refine individual frames to clean up matte edges or remove holes efficiently. The mattes easily convert to editable splines and back again, drastically reducing the time artists spend on detailed matte cleanups. The machine-learning model also processes data more quickly and supports interlaced output in After Effects.

Enhanced 3D Solves Mocha Pro's built-in SynthEyes 3D tracking adds the ability to solve shots with static cameras by selecting the Locked Shot option. A new Snap tool lets artists attach imported USD models to 3D objects, allowing objects to move in sync with the shot. Additionally, the After Effects camera export feature delivers more realistic camera focal lengths.

Streamlined Exports The 2025.5 release provides a smoother and user-friendly data export workflow. Artists can customize exports and save them as presets for easy access. They can also batch multiple exports to disk in one go, including single-layer outputs. Presets and batches can be set up and edited externally with JSON integration, and updated SNI and Fusion Multipoly exports offer improved data matching. View the full product page.

Pricing Mocha Pro is a plugin and standalone application with monthly/annual subscriptions, upgrade & support plans, and perpetual licenses.
