CFC defends decision to form production company --

The Cape Film Commission (CFC) recently formed The Cape Town Film Commission Production and Distribution Company (CFCPDC) to obtain a film permit necessary for shooting promotional marketing material.
This authorisation will also allow filmmakers, students, independent photographers and small international productions to apply for film permits through their membership of the CFC without having to register with the Cape Town Film Permit Office (CTFPO).
For the past 18 months the CTFPO has refused to register the CFC for a requested film permit as only production companies registered with the CTFPO are eligible for application. As recommended by the CTFPO, the CFC registered a separate production company enabling the CFC to offer a free service to enhance the industry.
The CFC strongly maintains that it has no intention of competing with the industry.
Denis Lillie, CEO of the CFC, says: Please let us assure you and your colleagues that there is no intention to take work away from you, this is all in line with the discussions we have had with yourselves and industry over the past year. The details were sent out in our emails and newsletters to the broader membership during that time.
