TSstartup 41 Applications Submitted Ljubljana, 13 March - In mid-February, Telekom Slovenije published the second call for applications to its business accelerator TSstartup. After the success of the first generation of projects under the business accelerator's auspices, TSstartup is once again offering domestic and for the first time foreign developers the opportunity to work on their product in a collaborative manner. The deadline for applying to the second round expired on 8 March, and 41 applications were submitted on time.

This time the share of applicants without a company was even greater than in the first round. TSstartup presents an excellent stepping stone for teams who are still forming and beginning their entrepreneurial careers. Just like in the first round, the teams have an average of 2.6 members. This time the biggest team is composed of 6 members, while 11 teams only have 1 member. The call for applications to TSstartup was open to foreign companies for the first time, and 9 companies from abroad answered the invitation, the most of which were from Macedonia.

It is interesting that this time online applications are more popular than last year almost half of the teams are developing one. The other teams are either working exclusively on mobile services (28%) or a combination of technologies (23%). Much like last year the majority of the services (59%) are aimed at end-users, while a little more (31%) focus on businesses.

The fields covered by the projects' ideas are even more varied than last year. The majority are business and development tools, followed by tourism services, services for sports and leisure, as well as social, communicative, and collaborative tools. There are also a few ideas related to farming. Health is a little bit better represented than last year, while there are considerably fewer services for marketing and advertising.

Given the variety of the ideas submitted, the selection committee has its work cut out for it in choosing presumably 9 teams who will already begin working with the accelerator next week. The committee will interview some of the teams, and the teams selected will be presented on Monday, 18 March, at the official launch. The selected teams will also be presented on the TSstartup website www.tsstartup.si.

TSstartup is Telekom Slovenije's business accelerator. It is the first program in Slovenia which offers participants everything they need for intensive development and preparing themselves to enter the market in the telecommunications field. For four months, Telekom Slovenije provides them with offices in Ljubljana, telecommunications services, mentorship, professional support, and specialized instructions in technical matters, programming, business practices, and running a company. Telekom Slovenije is using this program to create an environment which stimulates technological and business innovativeness, with the possibility of using the company's existing infrastructure, where the exchange of opinions, knowledge, and experience leads to tangible results in the market. The selected teams will be competing to win a 30.000 prize.
