Barcelona, June 23rd, 2006 abertis telecom, along with the Corporaci n Extreme a de Medios Audiovisuales, broadcast live and on High Definition Television on Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) the match between Spain and Saudi Arabia on Friday 23 June, a group match in the World Cup Germany 2006.

The broadcast took place in an act sponsored by La Caixa in the Tryp Medea Hotel in M rida.

This broadcast forms part of a series of pilot demonstrations that abertis telecom is undertaking to analyse the feasibility of High Definition on Digital Terrestrial Television.

This is, after a series of earlier highly successful demonstrations undertaken during the International Week of High Definition Cinema of Zaragoza, from the 12 to 18 of June, the first live broadcast of High Definition Television on DTT.

To carry out these tests, a multiple channel owned by the Corporaci n Extreme a de Medios Audiovisuales will be used and which has been on air since the end of last year.

Broadcasting the Spain-Saudi Arabia match has involved the cooperation of Mediapro, Pioneer, JVC, ASTRA, the i2CAT Foundation, Tandberg and Sony, companies commited to boosting High Definition Television internationally.

Everyone attending these demonstrations has been able to see first-hand the quality provided by High Definition Television combined with Digital Terrestrial Television.

The signal emitted follows the European regulations for High Definition which considerably improve the resolution of the standard definition signals as a result of its high brightness and colour information content.

abertis telecom is heading the Ariadna project, along with Mediapro, i2CAT and Sony, aimed at undertaking high definition television transmission tests on IP.

abertis telecom works in a determined way in developing High Definition Television from different international forums, and in Spain is the leading operator in establishing Digital Terrestrial Television. It has a DTT network that currently provides coverage to 80% of the Spanish population.
