SCTE CABLE-TEC EXPO ATTENDANCE APPROACHES 9,800; HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE POWELL KEYNOTE, DOCSIS 3.1 EDUCATION, BUSINESS CONTINUITY FOCUS
OCT. 24, 2013 (Atlanta, GA) A marquee opening session and an enhanced array of educational programs and hands-on technology exhibits helped drive attendance to approximately 9,800 for SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) announced today.
The Oct. 21-24 event at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta featured an increase of more than 6 percent year-over-year in overall attendance. Two all-day pre-conference workshops "Creating the Cable Generalist" and "DOCSIS 3.1 Engineering" attracted more than 400 registrants. In addition, Expo attracted more than 1,200 international attendees and more than 60 first-time exhibitors.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 featured a content-rich opening session: a keynote conversation between NCTA President & CEO Michael Powell and Kevin Hart, executive vice president and CTO of Cox Communications; a C-Suite panel with Cox President Pat Esser, Comcast Executive Vice President and COO Dave Watson, and ARRIS Chairman and CEO Bob Stanzione; and a network operations panel moderated by Comcast Executive Vice President and Chief Network Officer John Schanz.
In addition to dozens of technology workshops and an extensive exhibit floor, a highlight of SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013 was the appearance in the opening session and at the entrance to the exhibit floor of robots created by student participants in the FIRST Robotics Competition. The event also included a strong focus on the importance of Business Continuity, notably a luncheon address by Time Warner Cable Chief of Security Brian Allen titled "Lessons Learned from Hurricane Sandy," a special standards session on Business Continuity and a highly popular display of disaster recovery vehicles at SCTE Central.
"Wherever I went this year, there was enthusiasm about how SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is breaking new ground in issues that are essential to the future of cable," said Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE. "I'm pleased at how the industry responded to this event and am particularly grateful to Michael Powell; to Pat Esser, Kevin Hart and their teams at Cox Communications for their overwhelming support; and to CableLabs for their work in creating our standing-room-only DOCSIS 3.1 symposium."
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is renowned as a venue that helps the cable industry to reduce costs, deploy new services and increase customer satisfaction. The event features industry leaders confronting key technical challenges; hundreds of hands-on, technology-centric exhibits; a full array of robust and relevant technical workshops; the SCTE IP Challenge; the International Cable-Tec Games; and valuable learning that is driven by peer-to-peer interaction and networking.
SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2014 will be conducted Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 23-26 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. Tony Werner, executive vice president and CTO of Comcast Cable, will serve as Program Committee chairman for the 2014 event.
