RT Shortlisted Acro Categories at the Celtic Media Festival

RT Shortlisted Across 12 Categories at the Celtic Media Festival RT services across television, radio and digital have been shortlisted in 12 categories in the prestigious Celtic Media Festival 2014.

The Celtic Media Festival celebrates broadcast, film and media excellence from the cultures of the Celtic countries (Scotland, Isle of Man, Ireland, Cornwall, Wales and Brittany) and is now in its 33rd year. RT was shortlisted across a broad range of genres including factual documentary, factual entertainment, entertainment, sports, drama and arts. RT Raidi na Gaeltachta, the 2012 Celtic Media Festival Radio Station of the Year winner, was also shortlisted again in this category, and for the first time RT has secured a nomination for the Best Media App for RT jr.

Commenting on this achievement Noel Curran, Director General RT , said: "The fact that RT has been shortlisted across so many categories, and across all platforms, is immensely gratifying. The diversity of awards in which we have been shortlisted is a credit not only to RT , but also to the range of independent productions companies with whom we have engaged across the year. Awards and festivals such as this are hugely valuable in showcasing the best of national media, and we are honoured to feature so strongly in the overall final shortlist."

RT One and RT Two were shortlisted in six categories. RT Ones John Sheahan: A Dubliner (Scratch Films) was shortlisted in the best Arts Documentary category. Life on the Inside (Midas Productions), a two-part series exploring prison life, was shortlisted in the Best Factual Series category. There's Something About Patrick (Mind the Gap Films), a light-hearted look at some of the facts and mythology associated with St Patrick, was shortlisted in the Factual Entertainment category and Tommy Bowe's Bodycheck (Independent Pictures) was shortlisted in the Best Sports programme category. RT Two hit comedy series Damo & Ivor (Parallel Films), was shortlisted in the Best Entertainment category and the psychological thriller The Fall was shortlisted in the Best Drama category. The critically acclaimed drama was produced by The Artists Studio for BBC NI in association with RT .

For the first time ever RT has secured a nomination for the Best Media App. The RT jr app, launched in April of last year, offers its younger audience bespoke educational and educational content from their favourite RT jr activities and programmes across a range of platforms.

RT Raidi na Gaeltachta (the current Celtic Media Festival Radio Station of the Year) received five shortlist nominations including Radio Station of the Year. Cormac hEadhra, presenter of the drivetime current affairs show Cormac ag a C ig was shortlisted for Presenter of the Year. Cuairt ar Ghaza, a documentary about journalist Eibhl n N Chonghaile's trip to Gaza, is in the running for Best Documentary. Alternative music show An Taobh Tuathail, presented by Cian Siobhan, was nominated for Best Music Show and summer sports programme Sp rt an Luain, presented by former intercounty footballer Dara Cinn ide, was shortlisted for Best Sports programme.

RT Radio 1s Documentary On One was also shortlisted in the Best Documentary category with Oiled: A Portrait of Henrietta, which reveals the captivating story behind the Francis Bacon painting A Portrait of Henrietta Moraes'. The documentary featured interviews with her close friends Marianne Faithfull and Desmond Guinness. It also included a rare interview with Henriettas son Josh who had a troubled relationship with his mother.

The centrepiece of the Celtic Media Festival is the award of the Bronze Torcs for Excellence. This year the Celtic Media Festival Awards will be held in Cornwall in April 2014. Supported by broadcast, film, cultural and economic organisations, it provides a unique opportunity for those within the film and broadcasting community to network, exchange ideas, attend workshops and promote the richness of Celtic cultures today.
