HARMANs Studer Announces Compatibility of A-Link Interface with Evertz Router Products

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - HARMANs Studer today announces that Evertz now includes Studers A-Link as a standard direct interface into the Evertz range of router products. This offers a very simple single fiber cable connection, providing 640 channels of zero latency digital audio between the console and the video router (equivalent to 10 MADI connections). This direct connection not only saves installation time (one cable instead of many), but also removes the need for AES or MADI interface frames, thus saving significant space and heat; both important considerations in OB van installations.

Found in Studers groundbreaking Vista X digital console, A-Link brings a new scale of interfacing to the audio world. Utilizing 3Gb/s digital video interface technology, Studer can now provide a simple and robust digital audio interface capable of transmitting1, 536 - 32 bit audio channels on a single fiber cable. This ultra-high capacity link provides more than enough capacity for todays audio systems but, by using such a fast data transport, will allow audio systems to grow in the future without having to change interface standards.

The brand-new Studer Infinity Core DSP engine offers twelve of these new A-Link ports, offering the very large audio interface capacity required in todays professional environment. The new D23m I/O frame uses the same A-Link standard interface. New A-Link DSP cards are available for the Studer SCore Live DSP engine and can be retrofitted to existing systems. The Riedel MediorNet system also offers A-Link interfaces.

The A-Link interface uses standard SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) optical interfaces. These interfaces are widely used in the telecommunications industry and a huge range of compatible modules are available offering multimode and single mode operations with wavelengths from 800nm to 1600nm and distances of up to 80km without repeaters.
