Vaya film headlines as opening film at the 24th New York African Film Festival --

The New York African Film Festival (NYAFF) is a U.S. showcase of celebrated films from the African continent and the diaspora, and this year the South African film Vaya will be the opening night film.
Vaya is a film directed by award-winning director Akin Omotoso and has won several accolades including the Special Jury Prize for Outstanding Film at the 2016 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and the Best Screenplay prize at Africa Magic Viewer s Choice Awards in 2017. The South Africa film is a dramatic, moving tale centred around three strangers who are on a train from KwaZulu-Natal travelling to the big city of Johannesburg. Their lives eventually collide as they are all bound by interlocking destinies.
The opening night of the 24th NYAFF is held in collaboration with the African Film Festival Inc. and the Film Society of Lincoln Centre (FSLC). The festival, which will present 25 feature films and 27 short films from 25 countries runs from 3 to 9 May 2017 at FSLC before moving to different venues such as the Lehman College, Maysles Cinema and the Brooklyn Academy of Music s BAMcin mate throughout the month of May.
Other South African films that will be showing at the festival include Kalushi, Mapantsula, Uprize and Noem My Skollie.
