HBS MEMORIES 2012: THE BIG DRAW - 18/12/2012 The draw for the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 in December marked the start of a quick succession of events on the road to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. With FIFA WBM1 and 2, the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil draw on the calendar for 2013, the event in Sao Paulo was a great way to cap off this year and prepare for the busy schedule ahead in the New Year. Ivan Naufal, Senior Technical Liaison Manager based in HBS' Brazil office, talks over the smooth running of the FCC draw.

The FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 draw held in Sao Paulo on December 1, turned out to be much bigger than expected in all areas compared to previous editions. For HBS, however, this increase in interest and demand had been anticipated so we were well prepared for the challenge.

Since the beginning, we had worked in very close coordination with TV Globo, who were the appointed provider for the live multilateral coverage, as well as a few unilateral facilities. Gary [Shaw, Head of Venue Operations] and I arrived at the Anhembi Convention Centre on November 28 and set up our office straight away.

The TV Globo OB van had been in the compound since November 26 and all camera positions (multi and unilateral) were already cabled. We were in direct contact with their engineering and production staff until the very end of the event in order to ensure everything ran according to plan.

We went through the unilateral positions individually with the MRLs who had a presence in the compound Bandeirantes, Televisa, Univision and SporTV and gave them all the necessary support required by clarifying their enquiries about access routes, accreditation and SADs. TV Globo, SporTV and Bandeirantes also had presentation studios and unilateral camera positions inside the hall.

Even the best laid plans cannot account for last minute changes or requests though and we had to think on our feet a few times. ANATEL, the country's Telecom regulatory body, showed up unexpectedly but through cooperation with the LOC and FBST we were able to organise their accreditation and on-site presence. Similarly, a request from FIFA TV saw us supporting EBC, a public broadcasting network, managed by the federal government.

"The draw itself passed by very quickly, before the hard work began at the backdrop area as all coaches and some guests were taken for their post-draw interviews and press conferences. This was an extremely busy period but was a great test of our abilities and resources under pressure ahead of the big events on our agenda for 2013!"
